What is BGREEN Australia?

Almost two years ago, I moved to Australia from Finland to an utterly opposite climate in Australia. Finland has probably the world’s highest quality fuels and strict EU regulated emission standards. Yet, we too, had our fair share of vehicle-related deposit problems. They were different from what I started to notice here in Australia; lots of issues with burned oil sludge or significantly bad fuel economy. Every day in traffic, I see vehicles with heavy exhaust smoke. Very rarely did I see that in Europe.

Back in Europe emission testing was part of yearly registration inspection. We found out that we could quickly and effectively lower emissions with BG Products.

I wondered about all these things here in Australia and tried to explain the factors to seasoned automotive professionals. Almost everybody I talked to agreed but struggled to explain these benefits to the consumer. The industry is accustomed to selling products for consumers. Everybody was familiar with the engine flush of a fuel system cleaner but understandably struggled to sell more than two products. This prompted us at BG of Australia to put together a program to highlight the unique Australian conditions.

You may wonder why Australia has not adopted mandatory vehicle emission testing as part of the yearly rego inspection; after all, we do love our rules and regulations. I'm not sure if we do, but at least I find many people joking about it.

The simple explanation is this; our main petrol fuel quality (91 octane) equals Euro 3 emission standard. Euro 3 was introduced in 2000, and it was superceded in 2005 with Euro 4 standard.

If you are driving Euro 4 or a newer vehicle, you will need additional services.

High Sulphur content in our 91 octane fuel is especially detrimental for modern emissions system devices and engine oil. Engine oils are not designed to withstand such low-quality fuel.

WHY DOESN’T THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT IMPROVE OUR FUEL STANDARD?

Fuel standard is a hot political issue with all the environmental consequences. It would mean an expensive modernisation process for fuel refineries. We have only two left in Australia, and they don’t need additional reasons to shut down. They struggle with profitability already.

Then there are the regular people who choose to buy cheap fuel, but unfortunately it comes with a price of deposit formation. 91 octane fuel has a 69.5% market share in Australia. It took a while for me to understand, not to refuel with 91 octane or even its ethanol-blended 95 octane.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER FACTORS?

A great example is driving in slow traffic on a hot summer day.

A great example is driving in slow traffic on a hot summer day.

You have probably noticed how the paint in houses and colours in signages fade quickly and makes them look older than they are. That phenomenon is called oxidation. Our hot scorching sun causes this issue. Surfaces wear out quickly; the same happens for engine oils when they operate for extended times in extreme heat.

Some people have noticed how fast rust and corrosion form in coastal areas. That happens because the salt mist from the sea accelerates this process.

These characteristics make Australian conditions harsh for any vehicle with an internal combustion engine.

DO VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS CONSIDER AUSTRALIAN CONDITIONS?

Some manufacturers put some minor adjustments to their service recommendations. They may refer to more frequent services, or some even recommend additional engine or fuel system services.

One thing is for sure; engine oils are not designed with Australian conditions in mind. With severe conditions, minimal servicing and high sulphur content in our fuel; engine oils are more susceptible to degradation. Hence the burned oil sludge.

“Seriously, engines need all the possible love and care to survive in these harsh conditions.”

VEHICLE EMISSIONS IN AUSTRALIA

I have four children and I like that Australia is not overly populated and that it is safe to live here, similarily to Finland, if we don’t count deadly the snakes and spiders.

Australia’s fleet of vehicles though; they are emitting more harmful emissions than in other developed countries.

A recent Harvard study estimated that around 6,000 deaths in the Australia and Oceania region were attributable to fossil fuel pollution.

Today’s vehicles are designed to self-monitor emissions and reduce power and torque when emissions go too high.

As a vehicle owner, you will lose money when vehicle performance starts to deteriorate. If you want to avoid it, you can do something to prevent it.

BGREEN AUSTRALIA

A marketing program designed to explain why you should think about being green: even if that is not your priority, you might like to keep your vehicle’s performance and save some money?

BClean  Engines are designed to operate clean. It is only then that they have peak performance.

BEconomic  Keeping your engine clean is a sure-fire way to save money. Fewer repairs and better fuel economy.

BConscious  Your actions affect all of us. Be conscious and educate your peers to do the right thing for Australia.

BProtected  With a BG Performance Service, you are eligible for BG Lifetime Protection Plan, with no additional cost. For up to $4000 monetary coverage for engine and fuel system.

We tailored BGreen for Australia.

Its backbone is the BG chemistry; without BG’s incredible maintenance offering, this would be another marketing program. BG Performance Service will quickly lower tailpipe emissions, improve overall performance, restore fuel economy and save you money.

WHAT IS BG PERFORMANCE SERVICE?

It includes three products, that are simple to use and represent the best value for your money. They perform every time, they don’t add additional time for your oil change, instead, they add value for any engine service. It is a preventative maintenance service.

  1. We use an effective and safe engine cleaner BG EPR® for the oil system. Many use the term engine flush. We put BG EPR® in a higher class and it will clean your engine quickly and effectively without sacrificing safety.

  2. BG fuel system cleaners BG 245 for diesel and BG Platinum® 44K® for petrol are the most potent fuel system cleaners available in the automotive market. They provide true tank to tailpipe cleaning, which you will notice in better fuel economy, lower emissions and better response.

  3. Finally, BG’s engine oil conditioners BG DOC for diesel and BG Advanced Formula MOA® for petrol will boost the additive package of your engine oil. They carry proof of both; performance and safety. They are designed to control engine oil oxidation, oil sludge formation and control soot chain formation in diesel engines.

BG is the real deal. Such is my belief in BG’s chemistry that I was willing to pack my life and move here and to preach about these game-changing products.
